Visakhapatnam: BUREAU of Energy Efficiency (BEE) has cleared the action plan for implementing Indo-Swiss Building Energy Efficiency Project (BEEP) to promote world-class energy efficient building technology, energy-efficient building design and construction in Andhra Pradesh.

The benefits of the Indo-Swiss BEEP is to reduce temperature by not less than 2 degrees (based on local weather conditions) inside the house compared to outside temperature, adequate natural ventilation and daylighting potential, minimum 20 per cent energy savings and safe and healthier environment in the buildings.

According to a release, BEE was highly impressed with the massive efforts of the AP Government and sanctioned the Indo-Swiss BEEP to the State.

The BEEP team will conduct a seminar in collaboration with AP State Energy Conservation Mission (APSECM) at Tirupati on 22 October. BEEP officials submitted the final report to the State Housing Department on building an energy efficiency project. Under the project, experts from BEEP will impart training on the BEEP project to 500 village secretariat and ward secretariat staff. The project will have a major impact and great boon for beneficiaries for environment and economic benefit.

The Energy Department is contemplating to penetrate the energy efficiency in all sectors for the benefit of stakeholders, for sustainability of the sector and economy. The release stated that the State Government officials are ready to conduct training with the assistance of APSECM.

In a communication with Ajay Jain, Special Chief Secretary for Housing and Energy Secretary, Srikant Nagulapalli, Director General of BEE, Abhay Bhakre said that they BEE was highly impressed with consistent efforts of AP Government in implementing energy conservation and energy efficiency programmes including Energy Conservation Building Code (ECBC) and super ECBC due to which it has sanctioned the 'Indo-

Swiss BEEP to AP for implementation of Eco-Niwas Samhita (ECBC code for residential buildings).

The building sector in India consumes over 30 per cent of the total electricity consumed in the country, out of which 75 per cent is used in the residential buildings. The energy consumption in the residential building sector has more than tripled since the year 2,000 and is expected to rise rapidly in future. Energy efficient and climate

responsive design of new housing is the key in reducing the environmental impact, BEE DG said.
